I know that on my part it has disappeared. Which is the worst. I know that part of the new year is making all kinds of resolutions to change your life and be better. So far this year I think I have just been resolved to make it through my nursing orientation, and stay awake when I drive home from work. Everything else has fallen to the way side. I didn’t really have a social life before, but whatever I had before has disintegrated. I have been eating horribly, and it’s awful. I even put school on hold so I could try and make it to night shift, get adjusted, and then get back on track with school. 

So I think that the key to keeping dinner club alive, or bringing it back is planning. Strategic planning. Days ahead, and using my days off wisely. Which I haven’t been doing. 

I went to night shift last night, and it will be an adjustment. But I think I will be able to learn a ton on the night shift, and get loads of practice! I am scheduled to be off of orientation and on my own in a few weeks from now. Which is terrifying. We will see what happens.

It was my first time on night shift last night and I was planning on changing into my scrubs when I got to work. I pull out what I think are my scrub pants so I can change, and low and behold it was a scrub top, and I had no scrub pants to change into. SO I had to go through the labyrinth that is the downstairs of the hospital to try and find the materials management, to borrow a pair of scrub pants. I finally did but it was crazy and took a long time. Needless to say I made a really great impression on my first day on nights. 

Perfect. 

Let’s bring dinner club back, and keep it going everywhere. 

Also RIP Whitney Houston. She is one of the greats. I am every woman. Amen.

From the age of 15-19 “Love me if you dare”

or “Jeux d’enfants” (literally translated means, games of children…totally different title and meaning…but whatever) was my number one favorite movie. Staring Marion Cotillard and her beaux/baby daddy/french celebrity crushez all star Guillaume Canet.

For the longest time I thought that this movie was the number one best movie ever made. But I watched again recently and I feel like I’ve grown out of it. Don’t get me wrong it is still beautiful…but I feel so differently about watching it just a few years later. Like…really teenage Melissa, this movie…best movie ever made?

It’s weird watching it now and not feeling enchanted by the film makes me sad. I thought that movie was the epitome of love, but I hope not because in that movie it is mostly cruel, crazy, selfish, irrational, and irresponsible.

I have been watching other movies and I have a new french celebrity crush. OMGEEEE , dream come true for everyone!!! Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet, don’t mind if I do. He usually plays a baxter in movies, the one that the girls date, but not the one they want to be with, and eventually leave for the other guy. But if you are straight, Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet, you wouldn’t be my baxter for SHORE! I only mention that because when you type in his name on google, after his name it says gay…so maybe he played a gay dude in a movie…or is gay…either way I don’t care. I really don’t know either because all the websites are in francaisz. But he is totz dreamy. Gay baxter or not. He is for shore a french celebrity crush. YIZZER.

My first pattern review was just published on the website! So fun!!!

It is a review of a the Peony Collette dress.

I need to start sewing on my days off to be me productive/creative/balanced in my life.

For these past few days off all I could bring myself to do was watch every episode that has aired of Portlandia, and a ton of french movies. Which was perfect. But I can be doing more.

I will be more present on my blog. It’s just been hard lately because I don’t think everyone wants to always hear about how hard my first nursing job is going. GROWING PAINZ y’all.

Seriously…tough stuff. I thought nursing school was hard. This is a whole different kind of difficult. Just keep those positive thoughts and prayers coming my way…PLEASE!

I am sincerely apologetic. It is no lack of love on my part things have just been going a little faster than I knew how to handle. 

Here are the top ten things that I have been doing instead of blogging over the past few weeks…

1. Working…I started my first nursing job on December 12, and have been spending most all of my time there, or when I am not at work I have home work for work because I am in a new graduate residency RN program…so there is home work too. WORK WORK WORK. 

2. working…also working is number 2 

3. driving to and from work. I spend a lot of time doing that, because I work in the city and I live outside of the city so driving to and from work. 

4. sleeping…when I am not at work or driving to and from work I am sleeping. 

5. reading the hunger games…I had a few days off last week and I spent all of that time reading the hunger games (all three in the series) and I loved every second of it. 

6. watching biggest loser reruns. I love the show, and they are on netflix so I have been watching seasons past. 

7. hanging out with minkee….since I have been back to work minkee has been attention starved so I have been spending time with her to help her transition. that sounds crazy…but it’s 100% true. 

8. eating way too much food…nuf said. 

9. missing JHH. Johns Hopkins Hospital, the #1 hospital in the nation. It’s not that I don’t love where I work now, but I think I was kind of spoiled at Hopkins and I didn’t realize because it was all that I knew. I mean in little things like having instant disposable heat packs, a supply pyxis, a user friendly electronic medical record/charting system, and sexy foreign doctors a dime a dozen….

10. not exercising. 

So that’s my past couple weeks in a nut shell. 

After I read the hunger games my self talk turned into Katniss Everdeen’s nararation of the book. It was pretty weird, but it’s starting to go away. 

Also there IS NOT a plethora of sexy foreign doctors at the hospital where I work, and I am pretty annoyed about it…way more than I actually should be….I need to stop comparing every thing to Hopkins because who wants to be that nurse…not meeeeeeeee!!!!

I am sick right now. I need to get better though because I have work on Tuesday and I will have to wear a face mask if I am still sick….but I will wear one without complaint. 

Nursing is really hard you guys. So hard that I question my everything sometimes and rarely feel like a nurse instead of someone just pretending. But I’m actually an RN and this is real. Everyone says it takes time, so I will keep the faith and hope that it clicks soonish.

This week of orientation at work we have been having classes galore, and I have been learning so much all about cancer and what I am going to be experiencing on my unit. I am so excited.

I finish my last class of my first semster of my master’s program today. SO EXCITING! 10 credits down. 15 more to go. OMGEEE!

I have been listening to 3 hall and oates songs on repeat for the past week.

It’s been a dream come true.

I got access to the gym here at work so I am going to finally lose my graduate 15.

Also can’t wait to watch one of my number one favorite Christmas movies…ELF.

But I am down if y’all are down.

Things have been so crazy. I started my job last week, and I have been in a gnarly graduate course that I finish on Thursday. HOORAY!

It will be alright though.

For this 1st day of 6 day Christmas, here is a letter that I wrote to our Christmas tree, that we got yesterday.

“dear christmas tree,

first of all do you mind if i call you CT? I’m gonna call you CT, I hope that’s alright.

okay, so dear CT,

thanks for joining the family. please don’t let the cats intimidate you, they’ll only be bad if you let them. i wish you would have gotten here sooner but i guess better late then never. right ladies? please don’t fall out of your base and leave too many needles on the floor or mom will get p’ssd, and i will have to clean them up. not cool CT. i promise to water you as long as your good. jkdc, i’ll water you even if your not good. now that’s a promise.

Let’s just say that Best Buy is totally on the naughty list this year and that’s why they are hating on Santa. FOR NO REASON. All he ever did was bring presents and joy to lil’ girls and boys all across the world, and all he wants in return is good behavior all year round and a plate of cookies, and make Christmas magical. Not asking for to much. The world would be a better place if we gave out cookie plates and good behavior more freely. That’s a fact. 

Here are these two horrible commercials, making Santa useless, and making Christmas present giving a competition. BUT it’s not alright. 

and what is up with that being wendy from parks and recreation.

These commercials make 0.0 sense.

And Target (which I love the most) is saying, “Santa has elves, You have Target” like you don’t need Santa, because you have Target. I think it’s subtle…but still removing Santa from the equation.

I love Santa 4vr. Stop hating already.

I love wearing leggings as pants. It’s one of my favorite things to do. But I was never allowed to wear leggings as pants at BYUI so I went to a school where I was. That’s not why I transferred universities, but let’s just say, I really love my leggings as pants. I couldn’t have a cat there either, or live by myself – two things that I really wanted to do. So I went to a place where I could do all of those things.

This is just my social commentary on the rantings and ravings of my facebook friends. I think the environment at BYUI/rexburg, ID is not for everyone, and if it is not for you then make like a me, and leaf.

I know I’m already 6 days late for the start of the 25 days of Christmas. I felt by the end of last year’s 25 days of Christmas I was being too cynical. Which was never my intention. I only ever meant to be hilarious and bring a witty commentary to various Christmas hits.

Should I bring them back you guys? I know I can’t do all 25 days, but I can start now…if ya want.

Growing up around Houston I always felt such home pride for anything, or anyone affiliated with the medical center, and MD Anderson itself – it was a really big deal. Now I know it’s a big deal, and I couldn’t be more excited.

I have to admit I always thought I would end up on some kind of obstetric floor, but I keep finding myself in oncology somehow. I feel really good about my new job, and everything that comes with it. 

Most importantly, I am so excited to be a nurse, a real nurse. I have wanted a lot of things, but it is honestly what I have wanted the very most since I was 17 to become a real nurse. From my CNA, to my BSN, to my RN…I have worked so hard to get to this place, and I feel ready to be a nurse. 

I am so excited. I can’t say it enough. 

I am especially so excited to work for such an amazing hospital, with such a diverse patient population, magnet status, workforce, and I can’t wait to be everyone’s nurse. Maybe if I am really lucky I will get to practice my Spanish. Hopefully, I will. 

I feel so bless’t. Thank you to everyone, for everything, ever. I am so grateful for all the love and support that has been extended towards me throughout everything from everyone. I love you all. THE MOST SINCERELY   

I drove on the highway today for the first time and I didn’t die. I got a flu shot and my left arm feels so heavy, and I don’t even care. I feel so grateful for everything, and I am so happy.
